Look Inside
This ebook will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the diversity of these important creatures.
Rodents and Lagomorphs form part of a very complex web. These animals are the largest and most diverse Order of all mammal groups – making up around 40% of all mammals. They generate both stabilisation of the ecosystems in which they live, but are also are known for creating significant damaging consequences for the natural environment and for commercial farming production.
As a reader, you will explore the behavioural and physical differences between various species, and develop understanding of how various anatomical structures lead to varying functions. Rabbits and Lagomorphs have unique digestive processes and feeding habits. The complexities of these animals should not be underestimated.
For anyone working with or caring for these animals, you will lay a foundation of critical knowledge and develop confidence in recognising signs of health and conversely ill-health. This is simply vital information for anyone working with animals in any respect.
A short extract from book here discusses one aspect of Guinea Pig care …
“Guinea pigs must be securely contained for their own safety. A typical enclosure whether inside or outdoors will include an enclosed section for nesting, sleeping and hiding, as well as an open play area. Never use an aquarium or completely glass enclosure as the ventilation will not be adequate. If possible, an enclosure organised with the sleeping area off the ground is best, both for exercise and for warmth. Guinea pigs should be housed in temperatures above 22°C. Covering the cage with a soft blanket overnight can help insulate their sleeping area. Deep bedding provides the warmth they require, but they should be able to share their sleeping areas with other pigs (where appropriate) as this provides additional warmth”.
